Summary

The goal for the Sharks Foundation is three-fold: 1.) Identify, foster and maintain viable community partnerships with local non-profit organizations that meet our stated criteria 2.) Strategize and execute on-target events, programming and projects 3.) Spearhead fundraising in order to meet our yearly giving goals.

  The Sharks Foundation Coordinator is responsible for assisting overall programming and fundraising for the Foundation while executing daily operations. 

Essential Functions

The key responsibilities of this position are to plan and execute signature Sharks Foundation Fundraising events, assist in running and implementing dynamic and relevant community programming, as well as both the short-term and long-term fundraising initiatives that support them; assist the Sharks Foundation Director in the daily maintenance (business needs) of the Foundation.

Major Responsibilities and Representative Tasks

  • Oversee signature Sharks Foundation fundraising events (Sampling with the Sharks and Fitness Faceoff) and smaller fundraisers (Tank Tailgate at Fan Fest, etc.) including event planning, strategy, collateral decisions, scheduling, budgetary responsibility and on-site execution.

·         Manage the Stick to Fitness powered by Kaiser Permanente program.

·         Plan, organize and execute live and silent auctions for signature fundraising events.

·         Supervise the Sharks Foundation booth at home games including the in-game auction and donation collection while building relationship with donors, partners, fans and our Young Professionals Board members.

·         Work in tandem with the Foundation Director to ensure fiscal responsibility, develop and maintain reachable goals / objectives and explore new ideas as they relate to Foundation business.

  • Coordinate planning and implementation of Giving Campaign Events and employee engagement opportunities.
  • Facilitate participation of “Lady Sharks” in Foundation’s programs, fundraisers and events. 
  • Support Foundation efforts to fulfill all NHL community development initiatives including Hockey Fights Cancer, Military Appreciation, etc.
  • Coordinate distribution of donated tickets to local non-profit organizations.

·         Assist in coordinating activities related to the Foundation Board and Foundation Board meetings.

·         Support the managing of the yearly grant cycle process and serve as liaison between the Sharks Foundation and its beneficiaries.

Perform other tasks and projects as needed

 Competencies and Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; and 3-5 years successful non-profit and event planning experience including demonstrated ability to develop event and program strategies that map to stated goals and objectives

·         Strong fundraising event planning experience

·         Robust project management skills with ability to manage multiple tasks across multiple departments

·         Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, with strong attention to detail; Spanish fluency a plus;

·         Understanding of community needs with a deep commitment to improving the lives of youth and maintaining a public image consistent with “role model” status

·         Team player with strong work ethic and high level of integrity

·         Exceptional time management, problem solving, organizational and people skills; independent and strategic thinker

·         Ability to take initiative and eager to learn and grow

·         Strong commitment to teamwork with a “can-do” attitude

·         A proven track record of successful identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts, corporate sponsorships, individual donors and auction items

·         Demonstrated ability to create and implement administrative, budgetary and similar policies consistently and accurately, with knowledge of IRS 501(c)3 compliance, federal and state laws

·         Professional Sports experience preferred

·         Experience with city permitting a plus

·         Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and events as business dictates

·         Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word and Excel); Knowledge of Adobe programs (Photoshop and Illustrator), CRM software, direct marketing tools and web design a plus

San Jose Barracuda Street Team - Sharks Sports and Entertainment (San Jose, CA)

Summary
The Barracuda Street Team, under the direction of the Fan Development Coordinator, is a part-time staff responsible for the execution of hockey-specific events and programs, as well as providing staffing assistance for Barracuda game nights and other marketing initiatives.

Major Areas & Representative Duties
• Lead and instruct Barracuda street hockey clinics at local schools, after school programs, and community centers.
• Provide marketing presence at Barracuda community outreach appearances at festivals, fairs and other events as needed.
• Provide staffing assistance on Barracuda home game nights by staffing concourse tables within the Frenzy Fun Zone, fulfilling fan experiences, assisting with youth hockey intermissions, etc. as needed.
Requirements
• Reside in the Bay Area – we are unable to pay for relocation or immigration expenses.
• Must be available to work 20+ hours per week including days, evenings, weekends, and events as needed depending on event schedule.
• Clean DMV record and ability to pass a standard background examination.
• Establish and maintain rapport within and outside of the organization.
• Ability to provide hockey instruction.
• Must have an upbeat outgoing attitude and outlook on work.
• Previous experience working with or a desire to work with children a plus.
• Team player in every sense of the word
• Comfortable in handling and managing money
• Ability to learn new skills quickly
• Ability to process information in an organized and efficient manner
• Outgoing, enthusiastic personality; enjoys working as a part of a team
• Being able to think and react quickly in any situation

Work Experience/Education
• Currently enrolled in college, or a college graduate.
• Previous experience coaching hockey and/or working with children recommended.
