Ledger and Payroll Accountant - Sharks Sports and Entertainment (San Jose, CA)

Summary

The Ledger and Payroll Accountant is responsible for the designated accounting and payroll administration functions for San Jose Sharks, San Jose Arena Management, Sharks Ice, Sharks Minor Holdings and/or other entities which, from time to time, may be active within the SSE Organization. The Organization’s fiscal year ends annually on June 30.

 

Essential Functions

Ledger:  Process data and reconcile accounts for designated business units of the SSE Organization to ensure accurate and timely financial statements and reports.

Payroll:  Autonomously administer all activities associated with the payroll function including the timely, complete and accurate semi-monthly processing of payroll transactions.  Ensure compliance with payroll/employment laws, rules and regulations.  Fulfill payroll related reporting and analysis requirements.

 

Major Responsibilities and Representative Tasks

General Ledger Accounting

  • Ensure the timely and proper full-cycle accounting (including but not limited to the following types of transactions: cash, AR, AP, manual JEs and interface JEs) for designated business units resulting in accurate accounting records within SSE’s automated accounting systems used by operational and management personnel
  • Interface with banking personnel and other outside partners to resolve any operational issues
  • Facilitate regular meetings (currently monthly) with coworkers from designated business units
  • Update and maintain all required internal reconciliations and schedules related to these responsibilities

Payroll

  • Prepare and process semi-monthly payroll and special payments for all departments in several business units (may include multi-state processing)
  • Ensure the completeness, validity and accuracy of active employees, earnings and deductions for each pay period

Perform other tasks and projects as needed and assigned by Financial Controller

 

Competencies and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; and at least 2-4 years of related experience (for organizations with 100+ employees); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Ability to maintain effective work relationships w/ other finance staff and operating department employees
  • Ability to prioritize and to satisfy diverse, multiple, time critical demands
  • Ability to incorporate information from operating departments into the relevant processes (ledger, payroll, benefits, etc.)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to ensure privacy of all data
  • Proven experience with database structures and associated reporting tools
  • Experience working with the ADP ProBusiness application and the R&R reporting tool a plus
  • Experience working with the SAP Business ByDesign application tool a plus
